New Music Wednesday: Beast Mode Body!
Here’s an album that is seriously UNIQUE. If the cover scares you… it should. This music is not for the faint of heart. But if you’ve been dragging your feet or dreading your workout, this album has the power to bring your body back to life! Read on, please.
Beast Mode Body has three awesome features:
1) 150 BPM (That’s a peppy 10-minute mile running pace, 4-hour, 22-second marathon time, or ~ 6mph on the treadmill. 150 BPM is the PERFECT cardio training pace. My favorite! Bike. Elliptical. Stairmaster. Burpees. Yep… just go! And try to keep up ;)
2) Hardstyle music. It’s intense. And it makes you feel strong… focused… and determined… like you OWN your workout (all great feelings during a workout!).
3) 64-count phrasing. Wait, what? Okay, a “phrase” is a group of consecutive melodic notes, both in composition and performance. The beginning of a phrase feels like a jumpstart - like: “on your mark… get set… go!!”. The end of a phrase feels like… an end. Like a wrap on a tough interval. The cool thing about good musical phrasing is that you just feel it.
In Beast Mode Body, a single 64-count phrase takes about 25 seconds. That means this album is perfectly formatted for you to work HARD for 25 seconds (64 counts)… and then recover for 25 seconds. You simply ignore the beat for “a phrase” and just recover. It’s an awesome album to try mentally and physically engaging 1:1 work-to-recovery ratios (my favorite way to do cardio). If you let your body feel the phrasing, you’ll naturally follow the pattern of work:rest for one amazing, sweaty hour of cardio (you can do less time… even 5 minutes… anything counts!)
Each song has (8) 64-count phrases in it. That’s 4 work intervals and 4 rest intervals. The pattern is palpable and predictable. Try it! Jump on your elliptical, bike or treadmill and work your little tail off to keep up to the 150-bpm cardio pace for 25 seconds… then rest for 25 seconds. Set a goal to complete 4 work:rest cycles per song.
I’m pushing for you to try intervals to this beastly mix… but if you want to go hard the entire album and skip the intervals, please do!
How many songs can you get through? Try at least one song! We dare you ;)
